ESO looks after the interests of the European private inland shipping entrepreneurs on the European level. The ESO-Council is composed of representatives of Belgian, Dutch, French, German and Polish inland waterway transport organisations. President is Mr. Christiaan van Lancker.

The European Skippers Organisation is founded in 1975 in Brussels to make the voice of the independent IWT entrepreneurs clearly heard by the former EEC,the nowadays EU. Since then, ‘Brussels’ has come to see inland waterway transport (IWT) as a serious and sustainable alternative.

ESO is the interlocutor of the European Commission (DG-MOVE) and the Central Rhineshipping Committee (CCR) and participates in many working groups, which are often established on demand of ESO. Together with the colleages of the European Barge Union (EBU) a nautical-technical commission has been formed to advise the EC and CCR.

Over the years, ESO has occupied itself in the interest of independant entrepreneurs with various matters, such as market regulation, fleet renewal, use of reserve funds, market observation, waterway bottlenecks, inland shipping promotion, crew regulation, training, accommodation, environmental problems, River Information Services etc.

ESO behartigt de belangen van de Europese particuliere binnenvaartondernemers op Europees niveau. De ESO-Raad bestaat uit vertegenwoordigers van Belgische, Duitse, Franse, Nederlandse en Poolse binnenvaartorganisaties. Voorzitter is de heer Christiaan Van Lancker.

De Europese Schippers Organisatie is in 1975 te Brussel opgericht om de stem van de zelfstandige binnenvaartondernemers klaar en duidelijk te laten horen bij wat toen nog de EEG werd genoemd, tegenwoordig de EU. Inmiddels ziet ook ‘Brussel’ de binnenvaart als serieus en duurzaam alternatief voor de groeiende congestie.

ESO is gesprekspartner van de Europese Commissie (DG-MOVE) en de Centrale Commissie voor de Rijnvaart (CCR) en neemt deel aan veel werkgroepen die, mede op haar initiatief, zijn ingesteld. Met collega-organisatie EBU is een nautisch-technische commissie opgezet om gezamenlijk te adviseren aan CCR en EC.

In de loop der jaren heeft ESO zich in het belang van de zelfstandige binnenvaartondernemer bezig gehouden met uiteenlopende zaken, zoals marktordening, vlootsanering, besteding reservefondsen, marktobservatie, vaarwegknelpunten, binnenvaartpromotie, bemanningsvoorschriften, scholing, huisvesting, milieuproblematiek, River Information Services etc.

OEB défend les intérêts de la batellerie artisanale européenne au niveau Européen. Le Conseil de l’OEB se compose de représentants des organisations batelières allemandes, belges, françaises, néerlandaises et polonaises. Président est Mr. Christiaan Van Lancker.

OEB a été fondée en 1975 à Bruxelles pour faire écouter clairement la voix des transporteurs fluviaux artisanales à ce qu’on appelait en ce temps la CEE.

Entre-temps, ‘Bruxelles’ est venu de considérer la voie d’eau comme une alternative sérieuse. OEB est l’interlocuteur de la CCNR et de la Commission Européenne (DG-TREN) et participe à des nombreux groupes de travail, souvent crées à l’instigation de OEB. Avec notre homologue EBU a été créé une commission nautique-technique pour adviser CEE et CCNR.

Au fil des ans, OEB s’est occupée dans l’intérêt de la batellerie artisanale avec des sujets assez divers, comme la réglementation du marché, l’assainissement de la flotte, la destination des fonds de déchirage, l’observation du marché, les goulets d’étranglement sur le réseau navigable, la promotion de la voie d’eau, les règles d’équipage, l’enseignement, l’accommodation, l’écologie, les Services d’Information Fluviaux, …
